Sevilla FC and Ligue 1 side Lille have announced the signing of Argentine forward Diego Costa for a season-long loan deal.
Costa has been linked with moves at several top European clubs in recent months but is now set to join Lille on loan until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old Costa, who previously played for Real Madrid, will be a vital addition to the midfield at Lille, where he has been a key player in helping the team to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last season.
Lille boss Guus Hiddink praised Costa's skills and experience as a midfielder, saying: "He has a lot of qualities that can help us improve our midfield and strengthen our defensive play."
Costa will come into the team as a replacement for injured captain Kevin Gameiro, who was suspended indefinitely after a controversial goal against Bordeaux on March 29th.
Costa will also provide stability and leadership on the pitch, while his attacking abilities should help Lille to challenge for trophies next season.
The move comes just weeks before the start of the Europa League, which sees Lille compete against some of Europe's best teams including Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.
It remains to be seen how Costa will fit into Lille's plans and whether he will be able to contribute to their success this season. However, his arrival is sure to boost the team's confidence ahead of the campaign.
